Manitoba woman arrested following false calls to Kids Help Phone

A 34-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after she allegedly made multiple concerning calls to a help line.

According to RCMP, officers in Selkirk responded to eight incidents involving an unknown woman allegedly reporting self-harm comments through Kids Help Phone. Mounties said crisis intervention services, police and EMS were called to try and locate the woman but were unsuccessful.

Mounties allege during five of the incidents, the woman falsely identified herself as other people, resulting in more agencies getting involved. RCMP said 25 police officers were involved in various investigative and support capacities, and officers took part in approximately 239 investigative hours.

During the investigation, RCMP identified a woman from Selkirk as a possible suspect. She was arrested on April 17.

The woman is facing charges of identity fraud, criminal harassment and public mischief. She was released with conditions and will appear in court in Selkirk on June 19.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
