Sudbury police search for wheelie-popping dirt bike driver

Police in Greater Sudbury are asking for the public’s help to find a dirt bike driver who was behaving erratically on Elm Street earlier this week.

Police said the driver was spotted just before 8:45 a.m. on April 21 on Elm Street, driving erratically “without a licence plate.”

“The driver of the dirt bike was seen popping wheelies and attempting to engage officers in pursuit,” police said in a news release April 22.

Tried to engage police

“The driver of the dirt bike then sped off at a high rate of speed down Minto Street towards Larch Street. Officers then observed the electric dirt bike on Louis Street, where the driver once again tried to engage officers in a pursuit by doing wheelies and speeding.”

At that point, 911 calls started coming in about the same dirt bike being seen on Ste. Anne Road and then Elm Street, “where the driver was seen going through red lights, placing other motorists and pedestrians at risk.”

“Due to the erratic driving behaviour, officers did not pursue the vehicle,” police said.

“We are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the driver involved in this incident and the location of the dirt bike.”
