36-year-old man killed in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, police say

Vancouver police say they’re investigating the city’s third homicide of 2026.

Officers were called to the intersection of East Hastings Street and Dunlevy Avenue around 12:40 a.m. on Thursday for reports of a stabbing.

The victim, who police identified in a statement Friday as 36-year-old Matthew MacFarlane, was taken to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The VPD said its major crime section is leading the investigation and no arrests have been made.
