Saskatoon man arrested after stealing alcohol and threatening staff with weapon

A 20-year-old Saskatoon man faces multiple charges after police say he stole alcohol and threatened staff with a weapon during a robbery.

Police were called to a business on the 1600 block of 33rd Street West around 8 p.m. on April 15.

Police say a man loaded bottles of alcohol into a duffel bag and when confronted, brandished a bladed weapon before fleeing in a silver Mazda.

Police later stopped the vehicle in the Confederation Drive area and arrested a suspect. Stolen alcohol, a baton and a machete were found inside the car.

The man is charged with robbery, committing an indictable offence while masked, and two counts of possessing a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence.

Police are also investigating a separate armed alcohol theft reported the same night at a business on the 100 block of Primrose Drive.

Police say a suspect threatened staff with a knife before fleeing with stolen liquor. No arrest has been made.
