Sens say Chabot back in the lineup earlier than expected after injuring arm

Ottawa Senators defenceman Thomas Chabot will be back in action Thursday night, just over two weeks after needing surgery on his arm, the team says.

Chabot was injured in the March 23 game against the New York Rangers. Head coach Travis Green said on March 26 that he could be out four to eight weeks for a broken forearm.

But in an update Thursday, ahead of Ottawa’s game against the Florida Panthers at the Canadian Tire Centre, the Sens confirmed Chabot would play.

“Chabby is good to go tonight,” the Sens said.

Speaking to reporters at the Canadian Tire Centre, Chabot said he feels ready to go.

“We’re at the point, two weeks in, that everybody feels comfortable. I’ve been skating a lot the last, probably four or five days, and there’s nothing really holding me back. So, I thought I wanted to go back out there and play hockey and help this team,” he said.

“A couple plates, screws and here we are. I mean, we got it moving pretty early.”

Chabot has had seven goals and 24 assists in 55 games this season.

The Sens have three wins in the last four games this month, with four games left in the regular season. Ottawa is currently in a playoff wild card spot.
