Special weather statement remains in effect as more rain to fall Saturday before temperatures set to plunge

It will be another day of rainfall on Saturday before temperatures plunge Sunday into Monday. Julie Atchison explains.

It won’t be your ideal spring weekend, with more rainfall set to fall Saturday before temperatures drop into the single digits.

“Your weekend starts off with some rainfall potential for some thunderstorms and after all the rain we’ve received this week, we could see some localized flooding, especially in those low-lying areas,” said CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison.

Atchison says the unsettled weather is ahead of a cold front that will be moving into the area this afternoon, bringing in a “sharp drop” in temperatures. Saturday’s high will reach 18 C, “and then the temperature will start to drop off.”

Total rainfall accumulation will range between 10 – 15 mm, with winds gusting on Saturday between 30 to 50 km/h. Due to previous rainfall, Environment Canada warns the ground is nearly at saturation, and therefore last little ability to absorb additional rainfall.

Overnight Saturday into Sunday temperatures will plummet to 2 C with gusty winds of up to 50 km/h.

“The cold wind will follow with the passage of the frontal boundary,” Atchison said. “As we head into your Sunday, clouds will fill back in Sunday afternoon with the risk of a lake effect flurries and the potential for some mixed precipitation areas just north of London. London could see a few flakes.”

Temperatures warm slightly on Sunday with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 6 C. There will be gusty winds and a 60 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon.

“Sunday will not be a washout, but it will be quite cool across the area,” Atchison said.

Prepare yourself for a chilly couple of overnights, with the temperatures expected to dip below zero on Sunday night and Monday, with forecast lows of – 5 C and – 6 C respectively.

Monday will also be chilly with high of 4 C, a mix of sun and cloud and a 30 per cent chance of flurries.

Starting Tuesday temperatures rebound once again with temperatures well into the double digits.
