Do you own this abandoned ice hut on Otter Lake? Conservation officers want to speak with you

The Ministry of Natural Resources wants to speak with the person who left a fishing hut on Otter Lake in eastern Ontario at the end of the ice fishing season.

Conservation officers discovered an abandoned ice hut south of Otter Lake Island 4, in the Township of Rideau Lakes, last Monday.

“The hut was primarily constructed of wood and plywood, beige in colour and had a dark steel roof,” the ministry said.

A photo released by the ministry showed the ice melting around the hut.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ministry of Natural Resources at 1-877-847-7667.

Anglers are being reminded that all ice huts must be removed before ice breakup, “even if no removal date applies,” according to the ministry.

“Conservation officers strongly recommend all ice hut owners plan for and carry out removal well before ice conditions deteriorate, to prevent situations like this from occurring,” the ministry said.

In the Township of Rideau Lakes, ice huts were required to be removed by March 15.

Otter Lake is located 97 km southwest of Ottawa.
