Bruce Power sharing ‘nuclear knowledge’ with Western Canada

Bruce Power is sharing what they’ve learned from running the world’s largest nuclear station, located in Kincardine, Ont., with Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Agreements with both provinces have been signed for Bruce Power to consult on both province’s plans to build nuclear reactors in the near future.

Alberta has plans to build a four-reactor nuclear station near the Peace River, while Saskatchewan is still investigating their first foray into nuclear generation.

“We’re uniquely positioned to collaborate with SaskPower as it explores new nuclear to power the province with clean energy for the next generation,” said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s COO and executive VP “We will share what we’ve learned in 25 years of operating the Bruce site and in planning projects and planning for new nuclear.”

Bruce Power undertook a feasibility study more than 10 years ago to expand their own operations to Alberta but ultimately decided against moving forward.

This time, the Bruce County-based nuclear operators will only be consulting on Alberta and Saskatchewan’s nuclear plans.
