Bowden corrections officer charged in breach of trust investigation

An Olds resident has been charged in connection with an investigation into breach of trust allegations against a correctional officer.

In July 2025, Innisfail RCP were notified by Correctional Service Canada Bowden Institution about the allegations.

After learning of the investigation, the correctional officer in question resigned.

An investigation determined that the officer had allegedly developed a romantic relationship with an inmate and that the officer was allegedly smuggling contraband into the institution for the inmate to sell at premium prices.

Officers say the alleged contraband was nicotine patches and a cellphone.

An investigation of the suspect’s bank records showed that she had received thousands of dollars in payments for her role in allegedly smuggling the contraband into the facility.

The former correctional officer was arrested on April 15.

A 46-year-old Olds resident was charged with breach of trust by a public official.

Following a bail hearing, she was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on May 1.
