CTV’s Steve Murphy honoured at this year’s East Coast Roast

CTV’s Steve Murphy was toasted and roasted Saturday night as part of the annual East Coast Roast in support of Arthritis Canada.

Each year the committee selects a well-known Maritimer to be the subject of the roast. Past honourees include Lindsay Construction’s Cory Bell and former mayor Mike Savage, who is now Nova Scotia’s lieutenant-governor.

Murphy was this year’s guest of honour and his family, friends and colleagues joined in on the fun.

“I’ll admit to being a little nervous, because being roasted and toasted can be embarrassing, but this was a great event for a great cause and everyone was so generous in their remarks,” said Murphy.

This year’s event included special appearances by CTV alumni Jayson Baxter and Nancy Regan, current CTV employees Liz Rigney and Todd Battis, MOVE 100’s Peter Harrison, former Nova Scotia premier Darrell Dexter, and president and CEO of the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame Bruce Rainnie.

“It’s such an honour to be involved in a show that celebrates a man I have looked up to my entire career,” said Rigney, who was also the event chair.

“Our committee has had so much fun putting together this special evening. We tried hard to walk the line between roasting and toasting – while also raising funds for Arthritis Canada.”

The East Coast Roast raises funds to support arthritis research, patient education, and community-based programs.
