Two people have been charged after police say a littering incident turned violent Sunday evening.

Everything unfolded near Sherbrook Street and Notre Dame Avenue, when a 49-year-old woman - a passenger in a vehicle - saw garbage being thrown from the vehicle in front of her.

Police said she started to yell at the people inside, leading to a 19-year-old woman getting out of the other vehicle and starting an argument.

The exchange ended and both vehicles continued on Notre Dame.

The vehicle with the 49-year-old woman eventually stopped at a store near Arlington Street and that’s when the 19-year-old started banging on the woman’s window, police said.

A 50-year-old man tried to intervene, but police said he was pushed and assaulted by the 19-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man.

Police said officers were in the area and saw what happened, arresting the pair without incident.

The 50-year-old man was treated on scene.

The two 19-year-olds were both charged with assault causing bodily harm, and were released on an undertaking.

The charges have not been tested in court.
