Man accused of hiding in school bathroom stall re-arrested: police

A man accused of grabbing a child in a Winnipeg school is facing more charges following an investigation.

The man accused of hiding inside a bathroom stall at a Winnipeg school and grabbing a child has been re-arrested.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS), the investigation into last month’s incident at Darwin School led officers to discover a pair of incidents at a high school in the Louis Riel School Division, which police did not name.

The first incident took place on Nov. 20 after school hours. Police allege a man went into the high school, wandered around, and took a laptop from an empty classroom. The man then left the school without being detected.

The second was on Nov. 27 – the same day as the Darwin School incident – during school hours. According to police, the man went into the same high school and wandered around the first and second floors. Once staff discovered the man, he was escorted off the premises.

Both incidents were caught on surveillance video and reported to police on Dec. 1. No one was threatened or hurt in either incident.

On Dec. 9, police went to the Provincial Remand Centre and re-arrested Scott William George, 28. He has been charged with theft under $5,000 and two counts of failure to comply with a prohibition regarding children. The charges have not been proven in court.

Last month, CTV News reported that Darwin School was put into a hold-and-secure for about an hour when an intruder entered the school. According to police, a “complete stranger” managed to get inside, hide in a bathroom stall and grab a child.

George, who pled guilty to sexual interference in 2022, was later arrested in a mall parking lot and charged with assault, forcible confinement and two counts of failure to comply with a prohibition involving children.

None of the charges against George have been proven in court. He remains in custody.
