The Manitoba government is spending $6 million to revitalize Brandon’s Park Community Centre and add more affordable child-care options to the city.

“Our government knows that investing in our community, its recreation facilities, and its childcare facilities is an investment in our future,” said Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard.

“All three of these are key components of what makes the Park Community Centre special.”

Simard announced the funding on Thursday, saying the community centre’s redevelopment will include a licensed, non-profit child-care facility with 62 spaces.

The new facility will contribute to Canada and Manitoba’s shared goal of creating 23,000 new child-care spaces by 2026.

“Adding a child-care facility to the Park Community Centre is crucial, not just for families, but also for the growth of our city and our community,” Simard said.

“When parents can return to work or study and children are supported in a safe, nurturing environment, everyone benefits.”

Simard added once the revitalization is complete, the Park Community Centre will be a safe and inclusive space for recreational, cultural, and social events.
