Colleen Bready’s forecast: Warm-up on the way for Winnipeg, southern Manitoba

After a chilly weekend with temperatures stuck below freezing, we’re in for a warm-up this week in Winnipeg and across southern Manitoba.

A series of lows well to the north and northwest of the province are expected over the next few days that will bring some more comfortable temperatures well above the freezing mark.

That said, that could be a challenge on Monday for Winnipeg and the southeast, with forecast daytime highs around 0 C and 1 C this afternoon.

The southwest will be warmer, with highs expected to reach 2 C to 5 C.

All of the south will be cloudy and windy, with strong and gusting south winds. Environment and Climate Change Canada says wind gusts up to 70 km/h are possible as they funnel up through the Red River Valley.

Much more active weather can be found, though, across the northern half of the province Monday.

A low-pressure system crossing the Northwest Territories and Nunavut will bring snow and rain to much of northwestern Manitoba, with the risk of freezing rain. Ice pellets are also possible. Precipitation will flip over to snow in north-central and northeastern regions.

The south will be warmer on Remembrance Day on Tuesday, with afternoon highs reaching 5 C to 7 C, under a mix sun and cloud. There is a slight chance of showers in Winnipeg and the southeast.

Temperatures will still be rising during late morning services, but northwest winds aren’t expected to strengthen and gust until early in the afternoon.

Temperatures will peak on Friday with a high of 10 C, before gradually cooling down to an afternoon high of 0 C on Grey Cup Sunday.

Sky conditions for the CFL championship matchup at Princess Auto Stadium should be a pleasant mix of sun and cloud.
