Colleen Bready’s forecast: Sunshine and unseasonable temps ahead

After a foggy start to the day in Winnipeg and southeastern Manitoba, the sun is shining over the region on Wednesday afternoon.

Temperatures will reach unseasonably warm highs in the mid-20s with light winds.

That almost pales in comparison the sunny southwest, where Brandon and Dauphin will see soaring summertime highs in the upper 20s. Southwest winds will pick up and gust in some areas this afternoon.

Northern Manitoba will also be very warm for late September on Wednesday, with temperatures reaching well into the 20s. Sky conditions will be more mixed across the region than in the south.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says a low pressure system developing over southern Alberta will make its way into northeastern Manitoba this afternoon and tonight.

The low will likely spread showers this afternoon in Lynn Lake, then around Thompson and Churchill this evening before moving into Gillam overnight.

Ahead tonight, southerly winds will be strong enough that fog won’t be a factor in the south. The sky will be fairly clear in most areas.

Thursday will feel much more like fall in the south behind the low. Expect strong and gusting northwest winds and daytime in highs the upper teens, much closer to normal for this time of year.

By Friday, temperatures will climb again heading into a warm and sunny first weekend of fall.
