A surface ridge of high pressure is to thank for seasonal temperatures and relatively quiet sky conditions on Wednesday.

From Winnipeg to the Ontario border, it will be a cloudy afternoon. Areas west of the city and across the southwest will enjoy more of a mix of sun and cloud.

Temperatures across the south will reach highs between 5 C and 8 C in the light winds in most areas.

In northwestern Ontario, light rain and freezing rain fell Wednesday morning in Dryden and light rain and snow in Sioux Lookout. Showers, drizzle and mist are likely to continue across the northwest this afternoon, with temperatures rising to between 4 C and 6 C.

It will also be a cloudy Wednesday across northern Manitoba, with at least a low chance of showers or flurries across the region. Precipitation is most likely around Lynn Lake.

Northern highs are forecast to reach between 4 C and 6 C this afternoon, although northeastern communities, including Churchill and Gillam, will only climb slightly above the freezing mark.

Ahead tonight, temperatures across most of Manitoba and northwestern Ontario will drop just below 0 C.

Fog could also develop overnight in Winnipeg and right across Manitoba, which could reduce visibility during the Thursday morning commute.
