Rain from a slow-moving trough of low pressure is tapering off over southeastern Manitoba on Tuesday.

The system was blocked by high pressure to the east, causing it to stall out and dump a lot of rain on the south from Monday into Tuesday morning.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said rainfall totals are mainly in the 20-40 mm range across the region as of 8 a.m.

Some southeastern communities saw even more rainfall, with Zhoda receiving the most with 45.2 mm. Nearby Gardenton and Piney saw 43.3 mm and 41.9 mm, respectively.

The southwest received far less rainfall, with Brandon only seeing 4.8 mm.

As for Winnipeg, the weather agency reported three rainfall amounts from around the city ranging from 23.4 mm, 29.5 mm to 33.0 mm.

Rain will end east of Winnipeg Tuesday afternoon as the system moves over the provincial border and brings showers to northwestern Ontario.

Rain that also spread into northeastern Manitoba Monday evening is likely to continue intermittently in Island Lake Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the western side of the province will enjoy a mix of sun and cloud Tuesday, except for cloudier regions furthest north.

Across most of the south, expect gusty northwest winds on the backside of the departing low pressure system.

The sky will clear Tuesday night ahead of sunshine across the south on Wednesday.

The chance of showers returns Thursday as clouds move back in.

Cloudy skies will create a spooktacular Halloween atmosphere for trick-or-treaters in Winnipeg on Friday, with a slight chance of showers.
