Manitoba weather: Dump of snow coming to province

After rounds of snow last week in southern Manitoba, this week is shaping up much the same across the region.

A disturbance that first brought snow to the southwest on Sunday night continues Monday as its spreads east into Winnipeg and the southeast this afternoon.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecasts 2 to 4 cm of snowfall for Winnipeg Monday, before it tapers off this evening.

The south will get a break for a few hours before snow will resume on Tuesday. It will be a much more substantial low pressure system, particularly in the southwest.

ECCC has issued a winter storm watch, which it now refers to as a “yellow watch – winter storm,” under its recently updated weather alerting system.

The watch is in effect for much of southwestern Manitoba, including Brandon and Dauphin. ECCC says up to 20 cm of snow is possible by Wednesday morning.

The snow will begin in the southwest Tuesday morning ahead of the system that ECCC says will travel through east-central Saskatchewan and southwest Manitoba Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

Snow will also reach Winnipeg by Tuesday morning. At this point, snowfall amounts are expected to be lower for the southeast than the southwest.
