Colleen Bready’s forecast: A cool start to the week with a chance of rain on the way

After a warm weekend, much cooler conditions start the week off in southern Manitoba on Monday, with single-digit daytime highs expected.

A low pressure system in the U.S. is sending a lot rain northward Monday, primarily into parts of southeast Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said rain will move into the southeast corner of Manitoba on Monday afternoon, dumping 30 to 40 mm on the area by this evening.

There is a low chance rain will reach Winnipeg, but the city and much of southern Manitoba will contend with strong and gusting north winds well into this evening.

Further east, ECCC has issued a rainfall warning for several regions in northwestern Ontario. Those areas could see 20 to 40 mm of rainfall by late Monday evening. Thunderstorms are possible, too.

Meanwhile, the weather agency said light snow will taper off Monday afternoon in northeastern Manitoba as a low and its associated cold front leave the region.

Sunshine will return to the south on Tuesday, along with temperatures in the low double digits.

While the sun shines here, a low will cross the Prairies from the west Tuesday that will bring another round of rain to southern Manitoba on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday are shaping up to be pleasant days in Winnipeg, with sunshine returning and forecast temperatures in the mid to upper teens.

As nice as that sounds, conditions for the weekend look even better. Winnipeg is forecast to reach the mid-20s on Saturday and Sunday with sunshine or a mix of sun and clouds.
