Allied health professionals vote in favour of strike mandate

Manitoba’s allied health professionals voted 96 per cent in favour of a strike mandate last week.

The Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals (MAHCP) delivered the news on Wednesday, saying workers are dealing with increased workloads, lack of competitive wages and critical staffing shortages.

“The overwhelming strike mandate is another sign that the situation on the frontline is not improving,” said MAHCP president Jason Linklater in a news release.

“Allied health professionals are clearly running out of patience. They are asking for the relief and change they were promised, and for a competitive contract that will give them a reason to stay.”

MAHCP’s bargaining committee called for a strike vote on Jan. 13. The previous contract expired on March 31, 2024.

MAHCP has nearly 7,000 members who work in labs, clinics, hospitals, and community and long-term care settings across Manitoba.
