Windsor police officers won’t be charged after man falls while fleeing: SIU

The Special Investigations Unit Director Joseph Martino has determined no charges are necessary against Windsor police officers after a man fell out of a window attempting to get away.

Martino terminated the investigation into the 47-year-old man’s broken knee while attempting to flee officers in Windsor.

On Nov.13, 2024, officers became aware of a man who had entered an apartment unit of 333 Glengarry Ave. without permission.

Aware of the police presence, the SIU probe said the man fled to a unit above where he climbed through a window to scale down. In the process of attempting to scale down, the man fell to the ground and fractured his left knee.

He was arrested after his fall and taken to hospital where his injury was diagnosed.

Based on preliminary inquiries, it was determined the man fell on his own accord, according to the SIU.

Martino determined there was patently nothing to investigate as far as the potential criminal liability of any police officer in connection with the man’s fall.
