Windsor-Essex sees rise in seasonal illness

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) has reported a rise in seasonal illness in the region.

WECHU’’s new wastewater monitoring tool, which detects viruses and tells healthcare officials where different illnesses are spreading

“It is not too late for you, your family members, and friends to seek out vaccinations to protect against Influenza, COVID-19, and RSV,” said Dr. Mehdi Aloosh, WECHU Medical Officer of Health.

“Our data is showing that these illnesses have been circulating through the region at a high rate over the past several weeks, and we have learned together over the past several years how harmful they can be for many in our community.”

The health unit is recommending everyone stay vigilant to protect themselves against illness. WECHU recommends vaccination, frequent hand washing, masking, and physical distancing in an effort to reduce illness in Windsor-Essex.
