TWEPI sports tourism networking event held in downtown Windsor

TWEPI held a sports tourism networking event recently, inviting hoteliers and tournament organizers alike.

Windsor-Essex tourism operators continue working to bring more sporting events to the region.

Hoteliers and tournament organizers gathered to network in downtown Windsor Wednesday afternoon.

CEO of Tourism Windsor-Essex Pelee Island (TWEPI) Gordon Orr says the networking event allows the industry to assess what it needs to grow.

“So, we need to make it easy for them tonight, sort of a one stop shop where they’ll be able to meet the hoteliers, connect with some of the municipal members, that are out here with sport tourism as part of their background, and then connect with us and stay connected so we can help assist them in bringing their groups here,” said Orr.

Sport tourism accounts for about 13,000 room nights each year in the region.

This year, Windsor is hosting hockeyfest, as well as the world aquatics diving world cup.
