New monitoring system for beach water launches this summer

When beach season properly kicks off, there will be a new way of monitoring water safety in Windsor-Essex.

The health unit will continue to test beach water for E. coli at eight local beaches weekly.

But five beaches will also see “predicted conditions’ posted each weekday.

That new feature will use factors like rainfall, wave height, and water clarity to determine the risk rating of low, moderate, or high.

The goal is to give beachgoers more up-to-date information.

The new system launches May 28 and runs through August.
