The Chatham-Kent Police Service arrested a 34-year-old man after a stolen hot water heater was posted for sale online.

Officers have now recovered the stolen property following a break and enter incident on March 25.

Police say the incident, which occurred between March 21 and March 25, involved the theft of a new tank-less hot water heater.

On Monday at 2 p.m., police received information from a complainant, a 28-year-old male from Chatham, who had identified a listing on social media marketplace that matched the description of the stolen item.

Upon investigation, officers say they were able to trace the listing to a local residence.

After investigating, police say they confirmed that the water heater matched the one reported stolen.

As a result, a 34-year-old man from Chatham was placed under arrest for possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and was later released with a future court date scheduled for April 28.

Shortly after, the stolen property was recovered and returned to the owner by police.
