Crash leads to new charges for man on bail for attempted murder

A local man awaiting trial for attempted murder is facing new charges.

A local man currently awaiting trial for attempted murder is facing new charges after police responded to a weekend crash in the city’s west end.

Officers were called to Slater Street around 1 a.m. Saturday for reports of a vehicle that had driven through a residential fence and collided with a parked car.

Police say the driver showed signs of impairment, and further investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen.

The man alleged to have been behind the wheel, Fernando Ratcliffe, was also found to be breaching the conditions of his release.

The 25-year-old was previously charged in connection with a 2022 shooting in east Windsor that sent five people to hospital.

He had been released on bail under house arrest.

Ratcliffe is now charged with:

• Theft of a motor vehicle
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• Impaired operation
• Failure to comply with a release order
