CKPS called to suspected explosion, confirmed to be earthquake

Chatham-Kent Police Service say that they investigated calls regarding a possible explosion in the Ridgetown area on Friday evening.

According to police, calls came in around 5:45 p.m., with reports of tremors in several structures in the area.

Emergency services attended the area, and failed to locate any explosions - the source of the incident was believed to be an earthquake, which was later confirmed by Environment Canada.

Environment Canada confirmed that an earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter Scale took place roughly 30 kilometers east of Chatham.

Police say that there were no reported injuries or property damage as a result of the earthquake.
