City of Windsor to conduct emergency preparedness training for nuclear events

A series of emergency preparedness training exercises are underway this weekend, simulating a fictional nuclear event.

According to the City of Windsor, the city is working with the Windsor Regional Hospital, Town of Essex, County of Essex, the Town of Amherstburg, Windsor-Essex County Health Unit as well as provincial and international partners to help ensure that emergency services are prepared in the event of an emergency.

The exercise hopes to test response protocols, stregthen cross-border collaboration, and enhance emergency management skills.

There will be some minor interruptions to service as training exercises are conducted.

• The WFCU Centre, 8787 McHugh Street, Windsor, will be partially closed to the public on March 17 and 18, 2025. Service users have been notified of these closures.
• The Amherstburg Libro Centre (recreation complex), 3295 Meloche Road, Amherstburg, will be closed to the public on March 17, 18, and 19, 2025, but this will not affect business at Team Rehab.
• Windsor Regional Hospital will be participating in emergency training exercises on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Patient care will not be impacted by this training exercise.

There is no danger to public safety.
