Windsor is getting a nearly $300-million investment from a Canadian automotive parts manufacturing company.
Minth Group and representatives from the province and City of Windsor announced the construction of a 379,415 sq. ft. manufacturing plant on Thursday.
The company said it represents phase one of a multi-building manufacturing campus located at 5000 Cabana Road East in Windsor, on approximately 54 acres of surplus land at the Windsor International Airport.
“Being a global company supporting global OEMs in many countries around the world, Ontario is a very important and exciting new addition to our portfolio of world-class manufacturing facilities. Especially with our Canadian roots, we are very excited to announce this investment and we look forward for the strong support of the local community to help us produce a highly competitive and sustainable operation for the foreseeable future,” said William Chin, chief strategy officer with Minth Group.
The new facility is expected to create 1,099 direct jobs, supporting the company’s growing demand for aluminum, steel, and plastic components for electric and hybrid vehicle battery trays, structures, and exterior trim.
“Minth Group’s significant investment in Windsor-Essex, Ont. reinforces our region’s position as a premier destination for advanced automotive manufacturing and next-generation vehicle innovation. This multi-phase project will not only create high-quality jobs but also strengthen our local supply chain in the rapidly evolving EV and hybrid vehicle sector,” said Keith Andrews, Chief Operating Officer of Invest WindsorEssex.
As part of this investment, the government of Ontario is providing a loan of up to $40 million through the Invest Ontario Fund.
The City of Windsor is also supporting this local investment through the City’s Community Improvement Plan.
Officials say the Windsor-based operation is set to play a key role in expanding Minth’s presence in North America and contributing to the region’s rapidly growing next-generation vehicle supply chain.
Minth Group has selected local developer, Rosati Construction as the design-builder for their new Windsor manufacturing facility.
