‘Unique piece of machinery’ stolen from B.C. railway museum

Mounties in Northern B.C. are asking the public to be on the lookout for a “unique item” stolen from a museum.

Employees of the Central B.C. Railway and Forestry Museum in Prince George arrived at work on the morning of Feb. 22 to find a train horn had gone missing from the collection overnight, according to authorities.

“This is a unique piece of machinery and was not a crime of opportunity, such as we would see if a car was broken into, but likely was planned in advance,” Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper said in a statement.

Police did not provide an image of the stolen horn. But did provide a photo of something similar.

People are being asked to pay particular attention to online marketplaces and websites where antiques are sold, and the report any sightings of “similar items” to police by calling 250-561-3300.

The museum from which the horn was stolen boasts the “largest collection of rail artifacts in Western Canada,” according to its website.
