Two suspects were arrested this week outside Kamloops, B.C., after authorities allegedly found them hiding off the side of Highway 1.
Kamloops RCMP said the incident unfolded late Tuesday night, after officers received word that a stolen black sedan was heading for the community.
“The vehicle was suspected to have been involved in offences in Alberta and B.C., and had allegedly fled from other nearby detachment officers,” Kamloops RCMP said, in a news release.
Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said officers laid a spike belt across Highway 1 and managed to snag the sedan’s tires, but the driver did not immediately stop.
Officers found the stolen vehicle abandoned further down the road, and arrested two suspects nearby with help from the North Okanagan RCMP Dog Service Unit.
One man was “lying in a ditch,” while the other was “hiding in the grass,” Evelyn said in a statement.
The suspects were taken into custody, and have since been released under conditions. Their names have not been released as neither of them has yet been charged.
Kamloops RCMP said they are continuing to investigate the incident, working in partnership with officers across multiple jurisdictions, but expect to recommend charges against both men.
Authorities asked potential witnesses, including anyone with dash-cam video, to contact the Kamloops detachment at 250-828-3000.
