Thunderstorms, hail, strong winds and heavy downpours are expected to hit B.C.’s South Coast Wednesday afternoon, according to Environment Canada.
A special weather statement issued for Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Greater Victoria and the Gulf Islands says the stormy weather is a result of a warm front lifting and a cold front sweeping in
“The greatest threat from these thunderstorms are strong wind gusts up to 70 km/h, and heavy rainfall rates. There’s a very small chance of large hail (two centimetres or greater) for areas near the U.S. border such as Langley Township, Aldergrove and Abbotsford,” the federal weather agency said.
The storm is expected to last into the night, and drivers are being warned to brace for sudden changes in conditions.
