Richmond overpass strike sends load of lumber crashing through windshield

A truck carrying a load of lumber struck an overpass on Highway 99 in Richmond Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

The strike was reported around 9:15 a.m. at the Blundell Road overpass, the B.C. Highway Patrol said in a news release.

“A pilot vehicle that was following the tractor trailer was damaged when the over-height load of lumber fell off the trailer and hit the pilot vehicle’s windshield,” spokesperson Cpl. Michael McLaughlin said.

“The tractor-trailer stopped at the scene. The driver and the company involved will be investigated.”

No injuries were reported and no obvious damage to the overpass was observed.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area until the scene has been cleared.
