Mounties are investigating after a woman was struck by a vehicle and critically injured while crossing a street Sunday evening in Burnaby, B.C.
Police were called to the intersection of Hastings Street and Rosser Avenue just after 5:45 p.m., where the 64-year-old victim had been struck.
One ambulance with primary care paramedics and one ambulance with advanced care paramedics responded to the scene, a spokesperson for B.C. Emergency Health Services said. The woman was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The intersection remained closed to traffic and behind police tape for several hours while investigators examined the white five-ton truck involved in the crash.
Authorities say the truck driver remained on scene and spoke with investigators.
The Burnaby RCMP’s criminal collision investigation team has assumed conduct of the case and is now searching for surveillance images and video from the scene.
Investigators “are working to determine all factors that led to the collision,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in a statement Monday morning.
“Please contact our investigators if you witnessed this collision or if you have dashcam or surveillance video in the area.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has images from the area of Hastings Street and Rosser Avenue between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Sunday is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
