Mounties in central B.C. seized more than 200,000 contraband cigarettes – as well as firearms, cash and various other drugs – while executing a search warrant last week.
Officers from the Quesnel RCMP detachment executed the warrant with the assistance of the North District Emergency Response Team on March 28, Quesnel RCMP said in a news release Thursday.
The search took place at a home in the 2000 block of Red Bluff Road, police said.
Inside, investigators found and seized 1,100 cartons of contraband cigarettes, eight pounds of “marijuana bud,” 767 grams of psilocybin, 330 grams of cannabis concentrate, and 15 grams of cocaine, police said.
They also seized $13,185 in cash, 21 firearms and ammunition.
A typical carton of cigarettes contains 10 packs of 20 cigarettes each. That means there are 200 cigarettes to a carton and 1,100 cartons is equivalent to 220,000 individual cigarettes.
Police said they executed the search warrant specifically to find the cigarettes, which they said had a street value of “around $220,000.”
The news release makes no mention of any arrests, saying only that the investigation is ongoing and its results will be forwarded to the B.C. Prosecution Service for charge assessment once it is complete.
