Unsolved Vancouver murder still generating tips 16 years later

Published:

The murder of a B.C. mother of two is still unsolved 16 years after her body was found in a popular Vancouver park.

Mounties marked the 16th anniversary of the murder of Wendy Ladner-Beaudry on Thursday with a renewed appeal for information about her death.

The 53-year-old woman was brutally murdered while jogging in Pacific Spirit Regional Park near 41st Avenue and Camosun Street on April 3, 2009.

“Her body was found on St. George’s trail, just nine blocks from her home,” B.C. RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

“Wendy’s family and the RCMP have not given up looking for her killer.”

The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was the lead agency investigating the case for five years, identifying hundreds of persons of interest and – ultimately – eliminating all of them as suspects.

In April 2014, the investigation was transferred to the RCMP Major Crime Section Special Projects Unit.

“Numerous tips of varying reliability have continuously been received from the public and investigated accordingly,” police said. “Additional persons of interest have been identified, pursued and eliminated as suspects. It cannot be discounted that Wendy’s murder was a random act of violence.”

Thursday’s statement included a comment from Ladner-Beaudry’s brother Peter Ladner, who said the family continues to live with the pain of her death.

“We have moved forward but we will never be able to leave behind Wendy’s loving imprint on our lives,” Ladner said. “Her untimely death is a horrific loss not only to her family and friends but the sporting community that she so passionately promoted.”

Police urged anyone with information related to the case to call the RCMP at 778-290-5291 or 1-877-543-4822. Tips can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

“Wendy was only 53 years old when she was killed,” police said. “She and her family deserve justice and investigators believe someone out there has information that could help achieve it.”
