Published:

An abandoned home in Burnaby was set alight Saturday evening, say Burnaby RCMP.

Police in Burnaby are investigating a fire that tore through an abandoned home Saturday evening.

Frontline officers assisted the Burnaby Fire Department at around 8:45 p.m., controlling traffic as firefighters tackled a structure fire in the 6100 block of 9th Avenue, Mounties said in a statement Sunday afternoon.

The blazing home was empty, and the building is scheduled for demolition.

Police said the cause of the fire is still to be determined, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“The police investigation will remain open until more information is acquired,” said the statement.
