A non-verbal six-year-old boy who went missing in Surrey was found safe Sunday after an extensive search, according to authorities.

The search for the child began at around 8 p.m. Saturday and continued overnight. The boy was found safe around 11 a.m. Sunday.

The Surrey Police Service said the effort to locate the child involved more than 100 search and rescue volunteers from multiple volunteer organizations.

Andrew Wallwork with South Fraser Search and Rescue served as the incident commander and said crews were breathing a sigh of relief after a long night.

“We received the incredible news that the six-year-old boy was located alive. He’s been checked out by paramedics and reunited with his family,” he said.

No details about where the boy was found have been provided.
