Multiple arrests after driver flees in stolen Porsche in downtown Vancouver

Police blocked off a stretch of Alberni Street in downtown Vancouver after a suspect allegedly fled in a stolen car.

Vancouver police made a number of arrests Sunday afternoon after the driver of a stolen car fled from officers in the city’s downtown core.

According to a statement issued by the Vancouver Police Department Sunday afternoon, police first observed the stolen Porsche Cayenne around 1:30 p.m. and attempted to stop it shortly after near the intersection of Burrard and Alberni streets.

A collision at Alberni Street occurred when officers were attempting to stop the driver, and two of their cruisers were struck by the fleeing vehicle.

The 32-year-old driver and a passenger were arrested on the Downtown Eastside, near the intersection of Main and Union streets, at around 2 p.m., police said. A police dog assisted, and the arrest was carried out with the use of beanbag shotgun, said police.

The driver remains in custody.
