Metro Vancouver could see up to 120 mm of rain by Monday: Environment Canada

Parts of Metro Vancouver could see up to 120 millimetres of rain by the time a storm moves out Monday afternoon, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Rainfall warnings remain in effect for Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and the Sunshine Coast.

“A prolonged period of heavy rain and rising freezing levels will continue today. The heaviest rainfall is expected today and tonight. Periods of rain will continue into Monday before tapering off in the afternoon,” the federal weather agency says.

Affected areas will see between 70 and 120 millimetres of precipitation, with the heaviest rain expected near the mountains on the North Shore and in Coquitlam.

“Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” the rainfall warning says.

Drivers are being reminded to adjust their speed and following conditions.

Meanwhile, a snowfall warning is in effect for the Sea to Sky Highway near Whistler where up to 15 centimetres of snow is expected before the precipitation turns to rain Sunday evening.
