Man dead after shooting in Surrey Best Buy parking lot

Police are investigating Surrey's first homicide of 2025 after a man was shot dead in a parking lot Monday.

One man was killed in a shooting Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a shopping centre in Surrey’s Newton area, police confirmed.

Officers were called to Scott Road Crossing near 120 Street and 80 Avenue around 5:25 p.m., according to a statement from the Surrey Police Service.

There they found a driver suffering from life-threatening injuries inside a vehicle. “Despite life-saving measures, one man succumbed to his injuries at scene,” the statement reads.

The incident marks the city’s first homicide of 2025.

About 10 minutes later, Delta police responded to a vehicle on fire in the area of 64 Avenue and Westview Drive. Torched cars are a hallmark of gang violence and police say they’re investigating whether it is connected to the shooting.
