Kamloops man sentenced for breaching probation, possessing child sex abuse material

A Kamloops man has been sentenced to just less than two years behind bars after failing to comply with a probation order and possessing child sex abuse material.

Stephen Timothy Bittner was arrested on Feb. 19 during the execution of a search warrant at a home in the 1400 block of Halston Avenue, Kamloops RCMP said in a news release Friday.

“During that investigation, police officers located electronic devices that were capable of accessing the internet, in contradiction to the terms of the probation order he was bound by as a result of his previous conviction related to the possession of child sexual abuse material,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, in the release.

The 23-year-old was held in custody for a bail hearing after his arrest, and “soon after” pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to comply with a probation order, according to police.

Bittner also admitted to possessing child sex abuse material, Mounties said.

“As a result of the breaches and that admission, on Feb. 21, 2025, he received a jail sentence of two years less a day, plus three years probation,” the release reads.
