Burnaby RCMP appeal for witnesses to Lougheed Highway crash that injured 2

The cause of a collision that saw two pedestrians struck Tuesday evening, on Lougheed Highway at the Burnaby-Coquitlam border, remains unknown.

Mounties in Burnaby are seeking witnesses and video as they investigate the circumstances that led to a pickup truck striking two pedestrians in the city Tuesday night.

The crash sent the two women to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Burnaby RCMP said in an updated statement Wednesday afternoon, adding that the driver of the truck remained at the scene.

In an update earlier in the day, police said the cause of the collision was still under investigation, but “impairment is suspected.” The more recent statement simply said that the cause remains under investigation, and made no mention of impairment.

CTV News has reached out to Burnaby RCMP and asked for clarification. This story will be updated if a response is received.

The crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday on Lougheed Highway near its intersection with North Road.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash cam video from the area that was recorded between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to contact them.

“The driver of the pickup truck was travelling westbound on Lougheed Highway, just west of North Road, when the collision occurred,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj, in the detachment’s latest release.

“He could have originated from northbound or southbound North Road or further east from Lougheed Highway. If you have dashcam footage in any of these directions, our investigators would like to speak to you.”
