B.C. nurse gets 1-week suspension for ‘inappropriately touching a student’

A Maple Ridge nurse has been suspended for a week after “inappropriately touching a student on two occasions,” according to the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives.

Salendra Kumar—a licensed practical nurse whose employer is listed in the BCCNM directory as “Fraser Health,” without a specific facility noted—agreed to the suspension in a consent agreement with the college last week.

A summary of the consent agreement published on the BCCNM website does not elaborate on the specifics of Kumar’s misconduct or why the touching was inappropriate.

The incidents occurred between December 2023 and April 2024, according to the summary.

“Nurses are required to treat colleagues, students, and other health care workers in a respectful manner and maintain professional boundaries at all times,” the summary reads.

In addition to the suspension, Kumar will receive a reprimand and must undergo “remedial education in the domains of boundaries and respectful workplace,” according to the summary.

“The inquiry committee is satisfied that the terms will address the professional and practice concerns that arose and will protect the public.
