Alert from home security system thwarts break-in, leads to arrest in Abbotsford, police say

Abbotsford police say they were able to stop a break-in in progress Monday afternoon because of the homeowner’s quick reporting of the incident.

Officers were called to the scene in the 32500 block of Peardonville Road shortly after 2:45 p.m., the Abbotsford Police Department said in a news release Wednesday.

The call was for a “break-and-enter in progress,” according to police, who said the homeowner was away at the time, but “received an alert from his security camera” and immediately called to report it.

“Officers quickly secured the area and, within minutes of the call, entered the residence with support from the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service,” the Abbotsford police release reads.

“Inside, they discovered and arrested a man hiding in the home, later identified as 35-year-old Jaskaran Singh.”

Singh has been charged with breaking and entering, and online court records indicate he remains in custody. His next appearance is scheduled for Nov. 27 in Abbotsford provincial court.
