Wind gusts up to 80km/hr forecast in Toronto today ahead of blizzard warning: Environment Canada

A cold front is expected to bring flurries to the region overnight.

Toronto will see some “huge fluctuations” in temperature this week as strong winds and a cold front bring flurries to the region overnight, CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter says.

Much of southern Ontario, including the GTA, are under a special weather statement on Monday with Environment Canada warning of strong southwesterly winds that will gust up to 70 or 80 km/h.

The national agency says that winds of this speed could cause power outages and hazards for residents when high winds toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Toronto will see a high of -1 C today.

“A cold front will cross overhead tonight bringing some brief periods of intense flurries from about 8p to 1am. That line will be particularly intense north of the city,” Coulter said.

Areas around southeastern Georgian Bay are under a blizzard warning as flurries are expected to become heavy in that region later this afternoon.

“Cold winds rush in tomorrow, though winds will abate temporarily,” Coulter said. “Another round of snow arrives late afternoon, bringing around 5cm to the region though early overnight.”

The temperature is expected to be -6 C at its warmest on Tuesday.

While the high winds will persist Wednesday, the mercury will rise above the freezing mark. Toronto will see a high of 1 C with a few flurries.

Isolated flurries and seasonably cool weather is expected on Thursday and by Friday, conditions will be “bright and mild,” Coulter said.
