Remembrance Day in Toronto: Where to find a ceremony, what’s open and closed, and everything else you need to know

Torontonians will mark Remembrance Day on Tuesday with a series of ceremonies planned across the city.

While Remembrance Day is not designated as a statutory holiday in Ontario, it is for federal workers.

Environment Canada is currently calling for a high of 3 C on Tuesday but it could feel closer to - 8 in the morning with the wind chill, creating potentially frigid conditions for Remembrance Day ceremonies.

Here is what you need to know:

What’s open and closed on Remembrance Day

Transit agencies will run on a regular schedule, including GO Transit and the TTC. The latter will pause buses, streetcars and subways for two minutes at 11 a.m. as a remembrance tribute.

Grocery stores, shopping malls and pharmacies will operate at regular hours.

LCBO and Beer Store locations will be closed in the morning and open at noon. Canada Post won’t be delivering or collecting mail.

All banks will be closed for in-person services, but ATMs will remain open. Federal government offices and services will also be closed

Remembrance Day events

• City of Toronto ceremonies at 10:45 a.m. at the following locations:
• Queen’s Park ceremony at 10:45 a.m.
• University of Toronto at 10:30 a.m.
• Toronto Zoo at 10:55 a.m.
• Royal Canadian Legion
• RCAF Foundation at 10:40 a.m.

Road closures

Toronto Police Service issued a new release on Monday listing several road closures for Remembrance Day.

Road closures for the city’s ceremonies are expected to begin at approximately 10 a.m.

They will include:

• Queen Street West will be closed between York Street and Bay Street, with local traffic access to City Hall underground parking
• Bay Street will be closed from Dundas Street West to Richmond Street West (Local traffic access only from Dundas Street)

Police said the event will take place regardless of weather conditions and motorists are advised that there may be delays in the area and should consider alternate routes.

Road Closures for the ceremony at the Ontario Legislative Building at Queen’s Park will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The closures will include:

• Wellesley Street West will be closed between Queen’s Park Crescent East and Queen’s Park Crescent West
