Suspect wanted in series of ‘unprovoked’ stabbings across downtown Toronto arrested

Published:

23-year-old MacKenzie Duncan is charged with two counts of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault and three counts of assault with a weapon.

A male suspect who was wanted in connection with three separate, “unprovoked” stabbings in downtown Toronto has been arrested, say police.

The first incident happened March 23, at about 11:45 p.m., near Simcoe Street and Bremner Boulevard.

Police allege that a male approached a person who was sleeping and stabbed them before fleeing the area. The victim sustained serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Days later on Friday, March 28, around 9 p.m., investigators say another person was stabbed from behind while walking alone near Dan Leckie Way and Queens Quay West. The victim’s injuries were described by police as non-life-threatening.

The third attack occurred on Saturday at about 10:50 p.m. near King Street West and York Street. In that case, it’s alleged that a person was standing outside a building when the suspect attacked them from behind before fleeing on foot. The victim also sustained serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

In all three attacks, Toronto police say the victim and the suspect did not know each other.

On Sunday, 23-year-old MacKenzie Duncan, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, and three counts each of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon or imitation weapon, fail to comply with a release order, possess weapon dangerous to public peace, and carry concealed weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in bail court on March 31.
