79-year-old woman identified as Toronto’s 38th homicide victim of the year

A 79-year-old woman has been identified as the victim in a homicide investigation at an apartment building in Toronto’s St. Clair Avenue West area, earlier this week.

Toronto police say officers were called to the building near St. Clair Avenue West and Rushton Road at around 8:21 a.m. on Tuesday, where a woman was found deceased inside a unit.

A post-mortem examination was later conducted and the death was classified as a homicide.

The victim has now been identified as 79-year-old Jolan Kun, of Toronto. Police say this is the city’s 38th homicide of 2025.

Earlier, police told CP24 they believed the death to be “suspicious,” noting that the investigation was active and ongoing.

The building where Kun was found is home to several seniors.

One resident, who previously identified himself to CTV News Toronto as the woman’s son, said he learned of his mother’s death after being contacted by the building’s superintendent.

He said he was in shock and described her death as unexpected, despite her living with several medical conditions.

The son said his mother had lived in the sixth-floor unit for about 20 years and added that she did not have any known enemies.
