Saskatoon City Hospital emergency department to close early Sunday due to physician shortage

The Saskatoon City Hospital is once again reducing its emergency department hours due to what the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) calls “unforeseen physician unavailability.”

In a public service announcement issued Sunday afternoon, the SHA said the hospital’s emergency department will close at 3 p.m. on Nov. 2, five and a half hours earlier than its usual operating time of 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Patients needing emergency care after 3 p.m. are advised to visit Royal University Hospital or St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.

This is the latest in a series of temporary reductions at the hospital’s emergency department.

Earlier this year the facility operated with shortened hours for several months due to staffing challenges.
